Forget it! Yes, there is an app for that! As many have seen on the airwaves, TigerText was recently released as an app to help you forget and/or simply eliminate your text message. Their concept is simple, finally you can send text that doesn't live forever.
Is it really that easy? First, both parties need to have app phones (iPhones). Not everyone has one, and both parties have to have downloaded the app to their phone. Soon this application will be available on Blackberry's and Android's so more people can use this app.
The concept is actually not horrible since there are many times we text with emotion rather than thinking of the consequences. Like and email, once you hit send - it is gone. It can potentially go viral. With TigerText, assuming both parties the apps, that text will disappear within 60 second to 30 days after being sent. You get to set the timer.
According to NPR, TigerText utilizes an independent server and a timing system. Although it looks just like your traditional text messaging system, messages never reside on the receiver's phone or your cell phone company's server. Users can mark their messages for deletion anywhere between 60 seconds after it is read and 30 days after being sent and opened.
Founder and CEO of Love Our Children USA, Ross Ellis, has concerns this could potentially influence cyberbullying as kids believe their nasty evidence will be poof - gone. The tracking of the text will also become in question. Jeffrey Evans, the founder of TigerText, acknowledges that people who have something to hide might find it easier to do so with his app. Does this mean a bully has an easier time taking advantage of their victim?
After speaking with several teens on St. George Street in St. Augustine, Florida, it seems they believe this will be a cool app and are definitely going to download it. Sarah, 14 years-old visiting from Lake City, Florida said she would even ask her parents now for an iPhone to have the app.
With school opening soon, it would be wise for teachers, parents and educators to become familiar with this new app.
Be an educated parent, you will have safer teens.
