On Saturday, Feb. 23, the Madison County Writers Guild will hold its annual Texas Authors Book Sale and Writers Workshop in Madisonville, Texas. At the event, the public will have a chance to meet authors, buy their books, and possibly hear a little background from the writers or a reading from their latest works.
“We had a broad range of topics represented by authors here last year, from inspirational to cowboy tales to poetry,” says Joan Escamilla, a member of the Guild.
The book sale starts at 10:00 a.m., with a workshop on “A Journalistic Approach to Creative Writing” starting at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Paul Ruffin, 2009 Texas State Poet Laureate and Texas State University System Regents’ Professor and Distinguished Professor of English at Sam Houston State University, will lead the workshop. Both events will be held at the Truman Kimbro Convention Center in downtown Madisonville, where space is still available for author sign-up. Author spaces are $25, which includes a light lunch for vendors.
“We have a good deal of space available to us for author booths, so we will be able to register authors even on Saturday morning. Of course, it will be first-come-first-served depending on our room,” says Escamilla. “We hope to have a big crowd of both authors and visitors.”
The book sale is free to the public, and the workshop costs only $25. See the Madison County Writers Guild website or Facebook page for more information.
