Texas Twitter Tuesday is on July 5 this month. The guest this month is Master Sommelier Drew Hendricks.
Drew Hendricks is the beverage director for Pappas Bros. Steakhouse. He was named a “Best New Sommelier” in 2005 by Wine and Spirits magazine and he is a co-founder and board member of the Texas Sommelier Association, which hosts the annual Texas Sommelier Conference. You can follow Drew Hendricks @drewhendricksms on Twitter.
During the chat, three Texas wines are always featured for tasting and discussion. You can pick them up at places around town like Central Market and Whole Foods. Call ahead to be sure they have the wines in stock. The three wines to taste this month are:
- McPherson Viognier is a dry white wine with flavors of citrus, honeysuckle, and green apple. It pairs well with spicy food. The viognier costs $12-14. McPherson Cellars is located near Lubbock.
- Duchman Dolcetto has a ruby color and notes of raspberry and strawberry. It costs about $26. Duchman Family Winery is located outside of Austin in the Texas Hill Country.
- Sandstone Cellars VII is a 100% touriga wine with flavors of cherry, mint, and mushroom. It costs about $30. Sandstone Cellars is located west of Austin.
Rounding out the chat will be a discussion of the fourth annual GoTexan Restaurant Round-up. This year, it's July 25-31. During the restaurant week, dine at the restaurants on the list to savor local foods and Texas wines. A portion of the proceeds goes to local food banks.
