A two-year-old baby boy died last weekend in Georgetown, Texas at the hands of the baby’s mother’s boyfriend, 22-year-old Andrew Jimenez of Georgetown.
Jimenez initially told police he didn’t know how the child was hurt, but then confessed Tuesday after he was booked into the Williamson County Jail that “he became upset and frustrated with the child because he (Jimenez) was not able to rest so he struck the child repeatedly until he quit moving around.”
On Saturday, Jimenez dropped the baby off at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital, and then just left the baby there.
After the emergency room attendants were unable to resuscitate the two-year-old, doctors at the hospital noticed unusual bruises on the child and contacted police.
During the course of the police investigation, Jimenez said that when he awoke from a nap, he found the two-year-old at the bottom of a set of a stairs. Jimenez also told the police he was hungover at the time of his nap.
Jimenez said he was watching the baby, while the baby’s mom, 18-year-old Monica Alvarado-Garcia, was working.
Jimenez then told detectives he put the boy into a bath tub to make him “more alert and awake” but that was unsuccessful so he put the child in bed.
Jimenez said he fell asleep with the child next to him and when he awoke the boy was no longer breathing, so Jimenez took him to the emergency room.
An autopsy performed by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office determined that the baby died from “tremendous blunt force.” The baby’s death was then ruled a homicide.
Court papers released show that Jimenez has a history of assault charges.
Police from Georgetown arrested Andrew Jimenez last night, booked him into the Williamson County jail, charged him with the capital murder of his girlfriend’s baby, and set his bail at $1 million.
