The Texan MLS teams claimed seven players in Tuesday’s Supplemental draft with FC Dallas taking four and Houston Dynamo taking three as both teams used their full allocation.
FC Dallas had the earlier choice and took Garland native Cameron Brown with the seventh pick of the draft.
Brown comes to Dallas after Junior Year at UNC, a comeback year after spending 2010-11 injured and it proved a successful one where he scored 11 goals, which FC Dallas will hope is a sign he could serve well as a Brek Shea replacement.
Houston took Anthony Arena in the first round who joins to add defensive depth to the squad, coming from Wake Forrest where he managed 79 games in his career and was named to the All-ACC second team in 2010.
Kyle Zobeck was FC Dallas’ choice in the second round who will add depth to their goalkeeping ranks without Kevin Hartman and joins from Valparaiso where he was the most successful keeper in school history managing a 0.66 goals against average in 20 games including 11 clean sheets.
Cam Wilder was Dallas’ pick in the third round and his ability to play at virtually any position in midfield will be a significant boost to FC Dallas, he played 49 games for Kentucky and was a member of the 2009 U18 US National Team.
Houston didn’t have a second round pick and so had to wait for the third round before they could pick up Nic Ryan who played 79 matches for UC Santa Barbara who comes to the Dynamo on the back of being awarded the Big West Conference Midfielder of the Year award in 2012.
TJ Nelson is also a Garland native and two-time SMU captain who was named to the All Conference-USA team in 2012 and will add defensive depth to FC Dallas’ squad.
With their final pick Houston Dynamo took Yannick Smith who will be looking to add forward depth to Houston coming off scoring 23 goals and managing 14 assists in his collegiate career.
