Texas Showdown is less than 2 months away

The countdown to the largest fighting game tournament in Texas is down to less than 2 months away. This past week, Texas Showdown Championships announced the additions of Super Smash Bros Melee and Project M. With its community easily being one of the big highlights from last year Evo, Melee makes its return to to Showdown after last being at the event in 2005 when Major League Gaming combined with the Texas event.

Also announced was the Stargate Classic Pentathlon. Paying homage to the old Stargate Arcade, a mecca of fighting game competition in the early 2000's, the contest features tournaments for five of the most popular fighting games from that era. Included are Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK 2, Street Fighter III Third Strike, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Each tournament is a singles competition, but all players receive ranking points to see who will reign as the king of retro gaming.

You can find out more information about Texas Showdown, including registration, on their website. You can find the latest news on their Facebook and Twitter pages as well. Subscribe to my column, and follow me on Twitter and Facebook for the latest news about tournaments and events in Houston.
