The four men running for the office of Texas Lt. Governor in the Republican primary stated in a debate their support for creationism, or how the term ironically has evolved, intelligent design. They believe that in the supposed debate between creationism and evolution, there are two sides.
No, there are not. In fact, even way back in 1861 during the time of Charles Darwin, there was not. Evolution is a well tested theory that explains numerous observations and data.
If evolution was not true then fossils would be scattered. Dinosaurs would be lying with mammoths and early reptiles with Neanderthals. They are not of course. Almost every biologist in the world states that the record for evolution is true.
But who are they next to the scientific wisdom of these politicians. Anyway, creationism is supported by these candidates because of fundamentalist religion. The same fundamentalist religion that denies gays the right to marry the person that they love in Texas.
By the way there is debate in the Dallas city council on marriage equality and the opposition to it rests on religion. Religion opposed the right of women to vote and bans on interracial marriage. Why we continue to follow its' dogma instead of using reason, science and freethinking boggles the imagination.
Talkorigins is an excellent site on the evidence for evolution.
