A prosecutor in Kaufman, Texas was gunned down Thursday and police are searching for two suspects.
As Mark Hasse, 57, was walking to the Kaufman County Courthouse annex, he was shot several times just before 9 a.m., according to Kaufman County spokeswoman Pat Laney.
Sheriff David Byrnes said this crime was “an attack on the criminal justice system.” He also explained that “This is the next level (of crime)."
As police searched for the killers, security officers and deputies closed several streets and “Kaufman schools were put on lockdown.”
Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins said prosecutors need to be protected since they are responsible for placing criminals behind bars.
“Watkins says he's most concerned that people who are out on bail and awaiting trial will target him as the face of the office or his prosecutors.”
Ironically, this shooting occurred “hours before two members of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas pleaded guilty in Houston to racketeering and other charges.”
Readers, do you think this is the next level of crime?
