Texas oil tycoon's grandson dies at college after alleged heroin overdose (Video)

There are still no answers as to why a Texas oil tycoon’s grandson died. According to a Jan. 30 ABC News report, the cause of death could take two to four weeks to be determined.

T. Boone Pickens is worth over $1.2 billion. His grandson, Thomas “Ty” Boone Pickens IV, was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning after being rushed to a Fort Worth, Texas hospital. Ty, 21, was attending Texas Christian University. He was a junior studying strategic communication.

A drug overdose is suspected based on witness reports. Witnesses said Pickets injected himself with heroin after taking Xanax. The police were notified that there was a dead person at a location off the university campus property.

Ty’s grandfather earned most of his fortune drilling oil, but now advocates for alternative energy sources.

The elder Pickens made much of his fortune in oil drilling but has since become an advocate for alternative energy. This goes to show tragedy can happen to any family – even the extremely wealthy
