A Mesquite, Texas, man who allegedly beat and drowned his pit bull, has issued an apology for his cruel behavior, reported Friday's DFW CBS News.
Richard Prichard, 59, spoke from behind bars to KRLD’s L.P. Phillips, and explained that his dog had become "unruly," had attacked the family cat, ruined the yard and allegedly bit him.
“When I attempted to leash her with a doggy chain, she bit my leg and my arm, and in the process I made mistake,”
He stated that he had previously tried to get rid of his dog at the Balch Springs animal shelter, but claimed that the facility wanted $2,200 - an amount which he said he did not have. The dog's killer expressed regret for his actions and insisted that he is not a dangerous man.
“I regret terminating that dog. I should have just leashed it inside it’s doghouse and waited for my next check."
Prichard was jailed, on $50,000 bond, following the August 30 incident.
