If you failed to get your hands on the Texas Libertarian Party's coveted New & Improved Candidate Handbook as one of the 60-plus attendees at the Dallas Regional Leadership Conference in September you'll have another chance in Austin this Saturday, October 19.
And again in Houston on October 26 and San Antonio on November 2.
(Check the Texas LP website for the Regional Leadership Conference near you.)
LP Executive Director Lauren Daugherty told Dallas Libertarian Examiner, "I have been told that the Libertarian National Campaign Committee is so impressed with our new candidate handbook that they plan to spread it 'far and wide' to show other state LPs what they should be doing."
The twelve-page handbook falls in the category of "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Running for Political Office in Texas but Were Afraid to Ask."
It takes the prospective office-seeker through filling out and filing all the required forms and paperwork, guides him or her through the nomination and election processes and covers other relevant activities such as campaigning, contacting media sources and preparing press kits.
All of this, of course, after a candidate has decided what kind of candidate the candidate wants to be.
Did you know there are three different kinds in the Texas LP pantheon?
Mr. Placeholder is the type of candidate who files the paperwork to get his name on the ballot and then returns to his favorite spot on the sofa.
Ms. Educational runs a campaign to publicize the Libertarian Party and its freedom philosophy with no real concern about winning or losing.
But Axel Active and Winnie Winnable are serious campaigners out to take all the marbles.
First accolades for the handbook belong to former North Texas Regional Director Amie Parsons who wrote it in 2011 based on her experiences running for the State Board of Education the previous year.
"This newest version of our candidate handbook was designed by Denise Luckey of Dallas," Daugherty told Dallas Libertarian Examiner.
So get your own copy of the LP Texas Candidate Handbook by attending one of the remaining Regional Leadership Conferences, about which Executive Director of the Libertarian National Campaign Committee Evan McMahon said, "Every state party should adopt this program" and former national LP chair Mark Hinkle said "You guys in Texas have the best state LP, bar none!"
