Texas horse rescue posts plea for help and guess what?

Facebook posts can go a long way sometimes. Consider just how far this post went, and how truly wonderful some people and organizations are!

A while ago, Donna Keen posted a touching, sad note on Facebook about a horse she had to put down because there simply were no funds to have necessary colic surgery performed.

Keen operates Remember Me Rescue in Texas. Funding can often present an issue. Finding enough money to go around can sometimes be problematic when there are so many animals in need. Keen was unable to help that horse and she found herself troubled about it.

Keen wrote the post on Facebook at such a time, and had no idea how far it would go toward helping other rescue horses.

On the same day of that post, Richard and Karen Papiese, owners of Midwest Thoroughbreds, had to take a mare into colic surgery. Donna Keen’s post struck a chord with them and touched their hearts.

According to Off Track Thoroughbreds, a blog, Keen said, “Richard called me and said how terrible he felt, and that he had a horse with colic the same day. He had the resources to save his horse, and felt terrible that we didn’t.”

Papiese did not only offer sincere sympathy but he sprang into action. This generous couple wrote out a $10,000 check to Remember Me Rescue. But they did not stop there. The Papiese’s generosity extended even further. They promised to construct a barn and get started on it at the conclusion of the phone call.

Their kindness was truly remarkable. It was beyond anything Keen imagined. Not long after the phone call, equipment and trucks and workers pulled onto property and got started on the barn.

The 20-stall barn was due to be completed in two weeks.

Says Keen, “Rich Papiese didn’t want anybody to know about the barn at first, but we convinced him that people need to know that people like him, the real champions of racing, are out there.”

This is an amazing true story of generosity, human kindness and love for horses.
