A group of protesters marched through the streets of Arlington, to protest the fact that Texas is one of only 7 states that do not allow the open carry of pistols. They did carry rifles, which are legal. They say their march was to demostrate the absurdity of the law.
One of the protesters said, “Right now, Texas is one of seven states that do not allow open carry with a pistol. Every one of us out here would much rather open carry our pistol than open carry our rifle.”
Police were present, and members had notified local businesses, so as to not cause them to panic. Those present felt that the police were overplayed, but did acknowledge the fact that some police presence was necessary. The protesters are part of the larger Open Carry Texas group.
Similar marches are expected to occur throughout the state and anyone wishing to know when and where they are, can find them through Open Carry Texas.
Minister, Terry Holcomb Sr, recently staged his own one man march, by walking into business establishments, with his AK 47 Bushmaster, slung across his shoulder. When asked, he replied, using the same words as the Arlington protester, “We don’t want to carry our long guns. We would prefer open carry our handguns. But since this is the option they give us this is what we do and we’ll continue to do it until they remove that restriction.”
All went well until he entered a Walmart, which has a no filming no open carry policy. They asked Holcomb to leave, which he did.
