President Barack Obama has jokingly labeled the nation’s first gay president. Republicans have made reference to it and more recently comedian Joan Rivers has joked about it more so because of the advancement the Obama administration has made in the progression of LGBT rights. These accomplishments were recognized last week during his visit in Austin, Texas. According to a report by the Advocate on Sunday, a gay employee at Franklin Barbecue in Austin got to serve the president and received a fist pump in support of LGBT rights.

Part-time employee Daniel Rugg Webb didn’t expect the kind of recognition he received when he went into work at the restaurant last week. The Austin Chronicle reported the interaction as Webb, a comedian and musician, had the honor of serving Obama when he visited Franklin Barbecue on Thursday. Webb said the entire restaurant was prepared for Obama’s appearance and he knew he had to make some kind of stand when the president visited the restaurant.

Luckily for Webb, he was the one at the register when Obama approached. His first reaction was to slap the counter and yell “Equal rights for gay people!” What happened next will definitely go down as a memorable moment for Webb. When Obama asked if he was gay, Webb’s responded with humor, “Only when I have sex.” The answer drew a fist bump from Obama that was captured in a photo that has gone viral.

Webb called the fist bump the best part of the memorable moment. He told the Austin Chronicle, “That’s my favorite part because it was cool to get a joke in. In all the photos [all over the internet], I look like a dead fish, but it was cool. I do stand-up, so it was nice to have some interaction based on, hopefully, something funny.”

It was a classic moment and one that Webb will never forget. So what if it was Rick Perry who walked into the Austin restaurant and Webb was at the register? Webb admits he wouldn’t have been as humorous. He said, “If Rick Perry would’ve walked in, I would have lost my job. I would’ve taken that old queen to town.” Obama reportedly dropped $300 in the restaurant, but his interaction with Webb was priceless.
