Texas Frightmare Weekend 2010

Director John Carpenter

Texas Frightmare Weekend is upon the DFW area once again and this time they’ve brought one of the top movie director’s of cult films to the show. Mr. John Carpenter, known for films such as Halloween, The Thing (remake with Kurt Russell), Stephen King’s Christine, Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Fog and quite a few other films will be attending the show. A lot of the other actors who were in the Christine movie will be there as well as the original and gorgeous 1958 Plymouth Fury.

Cult horror director George Romero who gave us Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Creepshow and many other great horror classics will be there as well. Romero wasn’t the first to make a zombie film, but he was the first to turn it into an on-going franchise which influences many movie-goers, writers and film makers today.

Kane Hodder as
Jason Voorhees

There are way too many actors to mention so it’s best if you visit the guest list, but to name a few fan faves are Sid Haig & Bill Mosely of The Devil’s Rejects & House of 1000 Corpses to name a couple that these two teamed up in. Lance Henriksen, who not only starred in the eerie TV series Millennium but also played the leader of the “vampires” in Near Dark. He made for a great Satan-type character in The Garden. The lovely Elvira (Friday & Saturday)/Cassandra Peterson (Sunday Only) will be appearing and is sure to be entertaining. Kane Hodder and Dallas’ own Lar Park Lincoln from one of the coolest Friday the 13th films, #7, The New Blood, in which her character has psychic powers and gives Hodder, in his first film as Jason Voorhees, a serious run for his money when she takes him own. The newest Jason, Derek Mears, will also be on hand.

Some other names to throw out there include the actress best known as Lois Lane, Margot Kidder (Black Christmas, Amityville Horror, Superman franchise), Julian Sands (Warlock), Scream Queen Debbie Rochon, William Katt (Carrie), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser franchise, Pumpkinhead) & the beautiful Alexandra Paul who was not only in Christine but was one of the Baywatch babes.

Creepy Cars in the daylight, just so you won't be too scared.

That’s just a sampling of the actors and directors. In addition there will be Roller Derby girls from Assassination City Roller Derby, bands such as Ghoultown & some nightmarish horror authors, some who are Bram Stoker nominees and/or winners. These include C. Dean Anderson (I Am Dracula) Steven E. Wedel (Little Graveyard on the Prairie, the Shara series), Husband and wife authors Christopher Fulbright (Of Wolf and Man) and Angeline Hawkes (Shades of Blood and Shadow) and Mrs. Charlee Jacob (Dread in the Beast, Still). I’ve only listed a handful of the books these authors have written, not to mention their short stories or fantasy fiction that some publish under another name. I have read all of these authors and can say that if you like horror then these writers are some people you should definitely check out.

Although they are all friends and acquaintances and I don’t want to choose favorites, I simply want to say that if you really and truly like bizarre stories that might give you a nightmare or two or prevent you from finishing your lunch while reading, check out Jacob’s books. This nice and sweet woman creates some seriously messed up imagery in her books and extremely evil characters. But then after you finish one of her books you’re ready to get your hands on another.

Besides autograph and photo sessions there will be panels on writing, how to break into acting, Q&A sessions with actors, directors and writers, etc. plus a car show, film viewings and other fun events.

The show is this Friday (Beltane or Walpurgisnacht, if you like), April 30th - Sunday, May 2nd at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Irving near DFW Airport. Check it out… if you dare.
