As a member of the Austin Fire Department, Rip Esselstyn introduced his passion for a whole-food, plant-based diet to Austin’s Engine 2 Firehouse in order to rescue a firefighting brother’s health. To document his success he wrote the national bestselling book, “The Engine 2 Diet,” which shows the irrefutable connection between a plant-based diet and good health. The success of his first book prompted his second book “My Beef With Meat.”

“The Humane League is thrilled to be a part of the Texas landscape. The Humane Hearts Hoedown gives animal lovers throughout the Metroplex a chance to come together for an evening of fun and philanthropy, “ says David Coman-Hidy, Executive Director of The Humane League.

According to the Humane League, several human welfare and animal advocacy groups, changing the way we eat is the best way to improve our health, preserve and protect the planet, and reduce animal suffering. Humane Hearts Hoedown will celebrate the one-year anniversary of The Humane League’s efforts in Texas and will feature delicious small plates, hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and more. A silent auction will be held as well as an awards ceremony to recognize Rip Esselstyn and other change-makers in the community.
