Texas Chainsaw 3D kicks off 2013 horror releases

This new year brings plenty of horror movies for fans of all subgenres. First up is ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D,’ which opens tomorrow (actually, it opens at midnight today). While the original debuted in 1974, this story has been told and retold over 10 times. Still, fans of gruesome slasher flicks will likely turn up to see the movie anyway. If you are into the genre, here is what you can expect from this movie.

Since the mega-success of the movie ‘Avatar’ in 2009, 3D has seen a re-emergence in popularity. Adding a new dimension to this movie allows the viewer to experience it in a new way. The sensation of objects and people surrounding you makes the drama more intense. If you have the chance to see this in the theater, this alone is a good reason.

This movie picks up 20 years after the original, when the Sawyer family’s daughter learns of her inheritance. Heather takes a group of friends to the property in Texas, and the story begins anew when Leatherface is accidentally unleashed on the town. ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ blends a current storyline with the details of how Leatherface came to be so gruesome. While the body count is lower than the original, it is less campy and more suspenseful.

‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ brings together a diverse cast, including Alexandra Daddario (Kate Moreau from ‘White Collar’), Scott Eastwood and rapper Trey Songz in his first significant movie role. Archival footage from the original film is interspersed throughout as well. This movie is a must-see for fans of the original, and anyone who is in to slasher flicks. Head over to the nearest theater and get ready for a new level of heebie jeebies.
