Texas boy saves mom from drowning her 2 kids: Teen’s gun stops hallucinating mom

A Texas boy saved his mom from drowning his two younger sisters, a four-year-old and a six-year-old girl. The Texas boy, 18-year-old Jydesmon Gardner, saved his sisters from being drowned in the bathtub by their hallucinating mom by first firing a warning shot from his gun, even though it meant that it would get him into trouble. Jydesmon, who is wanted for an outstanding warrant, might now be facing a charge as a felon since he was in possession of a firearm, reports NBC DFW on May 24.

Jydesmon fled the scene as soon as his two younger sisters were safe with neighbors. However, police Maj. Rob Sherwin is appealing to the teen to turn himself in, so he can be questioned as a witness. “It appears that his actions may have saved the lives of these two children.”

On Thursday night, Jydesmon was walking by his mom’s apartment in the 3300 block of Southern Oaks in Dallas, Texas, when he heard screams. Instead of thinking of himself, he forced his way into the apartment where he encountered an excruciating nightmare – his mom drowning his two sisters in the bathtub. After firing a warning shot, the teen was able to grab four-year-old Wizion. When he returned for six-year-old Willow, the apartment door had been locked, so he had to kick it in to get to the frightened and dripping girl. Once the two girls were safe with neighbors, he ran away.

Jydesmon’s mom, 35-year-old Sonya Ann Gardner, is the mother of four children and according to family members and neighbors, she is a good mom who loves her children. She is raising the children on her own. Earnest Gardner, Sonya’s brother, describes his sister as “fun, outgoing, full of life; the jokester of our family,” reports Fox News. "It's a hard time for our family and we don't really understand why this happened.”

Sonya had admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the evening, and family members told NBC DFW that the marijuana was likely laced with PCP. Family members said Sonya had gone to Baylor Medical Center for treatment, but after waiting in the emergency room for several hours, left without receiving any medical attention. "They did take her to the hospital she was not able to be seen because it was packed and I just feel like had she stayed a little longer she would have got the help and none of this would have ever happened," said Sonya Gardner's cousin Lolita Isaac.

After Texas teen Jydesmon Gardner already saved his mom from drowning his two little sisters, he might be able to save his jailed mom by coming forward as a witness. According to court documents, six-year-old Willow told police officers that her mom tried to “drown us in the bath,” and that “we were fixing to die.” Apparently, the trigger for their mom’s behavior occurred when the two girls asked for snacks. For now, the two girls’ mom is being held in jail on a $1 million bond on two counts of attempted capital murder of a child. No attorney has been listed for her.
