Austin's Four Seasons Hotel will host the First Edition Literary Gala, which kicks off this year's Texas Book Festival. The annual writing and literature conglomerate commences October 26th and 27th on the Texas State Capitol lawn, with the Charity Gala opening the weekend on October 25th.
The annual Gala promises an evening of elegance in the ambient backdrop of the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Austin. Attendees will indulge in cocktails and charity among the city's most brilliant literary minds and philanthropists. Beginning at 6:30pm, AT&T will host a bountiful silent auction including resort stays, weekend getaways, and various art and collectibles. As an added treat, the list of presenters for this year's Gala includes Jeff Lindsay, writer behind the Dexter franchise, Meg Wolitzer, and Ken Jennings. The evening will also lend recognition to Mary Margaret Farabee, an Austin icon and one of the founding members of the Texas Book Festival.
The 2013 Texas Writer Award goes to Steven Weinberg, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics and National Medal of Science. Weinberg's accomplishments place him at the forefront of his career and secure his nomination as one of the strongest voices to emerge from Texas.
"I'm so excited that we are honoring a Texas writer who has made such significant contributions to both the academic and literary communities,” says literary director, Stephanie Opitz.
Gala proceeds support Texas Book Festival and its affiliated partners: Texas Public Library grants, Reading Rockstars, and the Fiction Writing Contest for middle and high school students.
The Gala is co-chaired by Janna Paulson and Viki Chupik, two of the seasoned volunteers to put Texas Book Festival into motion this fall. In its ninth year, The Texas Book Festival offers reading from over 225 authors, music, cooking demonstrations, and children's events. It is an event Austinites will not want to miss - whether you are a literature enthusiast or not, this patron-packed weekend is a must-have addition to your fall calendar.
