The 2009 Texans will take the field for the first time when OTA's begin on May 18
During the course of finalizing contracts with several undrafted free agents, the Texans released veteran tight end Courtney Anderson.
Some of you may ask "who?"
Anderson's stay with the Texans was a brief one. He was signed to a future contract in January as a hedge against the vacancy created by the retirement of Mark Bruener.
But Anderson's release wasn't a surprise considering the Texans drafted two tight ends last weekend.
The Texans now have four tight ends on the roster; Owen Daniels, Joel Dreessen, and rookie draft picks Anthony Hill and James Casey.
Casey's situation is well documented and the plan is to use him at several positions. Hill is the only 'blocking tight end' on the roster.
As of Saturday evening, the Texans had finalized contracts with seven of the eleven undrafted free agents whose signings were previously reported.
The four remaining were Jason Watkins, Mike Jones, Brandon Walker and Doug Dedrick. I would expect that most, if not all of those remaining deals will get done soon (or may already be done) unless someone got a better deal with another team.
The Texans have also signed defensive tackle Jake Visser, from Ferris State who was not included on the original 'list of eleven.'
The Texans first organized team activity (OTA) is scheduled to begin May 18.
