The Texans open preseason at Arrowhead on August 15
It's hard to believe that the Texans preseason opener against the Chiefs is only three weeks away.
Chiefs fans must also think it's hard to believe that they will be required to buy a ticket to the preseason opener against the Texans if they want a ticket to the Cowboys regular season game at Arrowhead.
Actually, they shouldn't be that surprised.
Every team does it, and I'm sure somewhere in the Chiefs ticket sales literature you'll find some cute reference to a 'Texas Two-Step' two-game pack.
Chiefs fans should keep in mind that if the tables were turned and the preseason opener was at Reliant Stadium, Texans fans wouldn't be too excited to have a Chiefs ticket forced on them - if it was a required add-on to a single game ticket purchase for the Colts or Titans.
As a Texans season ticket holder, I don't have to worry about getting ripped off on such marketing schemes. After years of being disgruntled about it, I've capitulated to the NFL Borg and have accepted the fact that one-fifth of my season ticket cost goes toward near-worthless preseason games.
I say near worthless because there's some value in those preseason games.
Week 1 of the preseason is when you dust off your tailgating gear that you've been carrying around in the back of your truck for 8 months and see if it all still works. It's the dry run to to the regular season and a time to see old friends that you haven't seen since early January.
Week 1 of the preseason is also when you watch the starters play a series or two and 27 other guys who won't be on the roster on Week 1 of the regular season. But that's okay. Part of the value of a preseason ticket is watching guys fight for few available roster spots.
Week 3 of preseason is usually a fair value ticket because it's the game where the starters see the most action. Most coaches want to see how their teams come out after halftime so the starters get pushed a little more, and the bubble guys might not see action again - until Week 4. I'm really looking forward to the Texans- Vikings preseason game on Monday Night Football.
Week 4 of preseason is of little value unless you're player fighting for a roster spot or a spot on the practice squad. That makes this game meaningful to only the die-hardest of die-hard fans.
Like you and me.

Well 3 weeks from Saturday, which is really closer to 4 weeks isn't it ? No matter, TC starts a week from Friday so I think I'm gonna be able to make it now, but I wasn't sure there for awhile.
BTW, the rookies report on the 26th. I dunno, what's that about ? Maybe they just attend classes for several days leading up to Friday the 31st when everyone else reports for camp ?
I was especially excited about last year's preseason because I got to see my favorite draftee, Slaton, prove that he can make it in the pros. This year I'm almost as excited about Foster, Barwin, and Cushing. I think Cushing's going to surprise a lot of people by how well adjusted he'll look among the veterans.
@Don - yes it's closer to 4 weeks but that wouldn't have sounded as good. We're three weeks from game week ... good enough for me.
A lot of teams have rooks come in before the vets to give them a head start on meetings, playbook, etc., because they are still way behind most of the vets in that dept.
