Today at 3 PM Pirate Time the winter competition comes to an end. Rumor has it, that's when you'll see another client update delay your logging in... and after that, you'll be able to set sail for the very first time on the three new merged oceans:
- Midnight + Cobalt = Cerulean!
- Sage + Hunter = Emerald!
- Viridian + Malachite = Meridian!
Once those oceans become available for testing, you'll be able to log onto 'em and check 'em out. They'll be set up as subscription oceans for now, and every pirate that sails 'em will be treated as a fully paid subscriber with all the privileges that inhere thereunto.
The key word here is test. Familiar with beta testing? This is like that. The new Oceans will go up and down without warning. They'll be updated frequently. And any progress you undergo there will be wiped out at the end of the test period. This, by the way, is why all three of 'em will be set up as Subscription Oceans during the testing period -- the Ringers don't want you wasting your hard-earned doubloons over temporary gains.
So with those caveats in mind, have fun! I don't know about you, but I'm super-excited at the chance to finally mem those new interocean routes... twice!
Update: 3 PM has come and gone, the competition is over... but the new Oceans are not yet available. So much for rumor! Sit tight, folks -- the devs are probably still working out the kinks.
Update the Second: As of 1:00 PM on January 5, the new merged Ocean Cerulean is available for testing (and Velasco Thorsson has logged the conclusion of his journey). Just press the "Change" button and you'll see Cerulean listed underneath Midnight and Cobalt. Log in and any Midnight and Cobalt pirates that you have should be available from the Pick Yer Pirate menu.
If you don't see Cerulean in under Select Yer Ocean, try logging into your usual Ocean; your client should give you the "Login failed" message and automatically upgrade itself from the server. Report bugs in-game with /bug. If you want to discuss your experience, the conversation is going on at the end of this thread.
