Test riding in the Commuter Cars Tango

Commuter Cars Tango, Sergey Brin
Commuter Cars' incredible Tango.

The Commuter Cars Tango cannot leave you feeling neutral.  You either get it or you do not… and if not, then you are missing the point.

The gist is that the Commuter CarsTango is an all performance... commuter electric car.  It is the essence of an electric vehicle, EV.  While there might be little luggage room, it will get you from point A to B, with all smiles and with that famous EV grin.  This is exactly what the Tango does, it zips you anywhere with ease and enough oomph to satisfy your adrenaline needs.  Should I go on?

Tango, The Handling.  There is no doubt about it, this little EV is glued to the ground.  It is the most stable car I have been in a while, rivaling Nobles and according to Rick Woodberry, CEO and Founder of Commuter Cars, even a Porsche 911, as you can see in the video below.  When asked about one of his favortie features, the Tango is narrower than a Harley Davidson due to its very small footprint and can split lanes, making the king of traffic.  If the ride is a little bumpy, shock absorbers can always be adjusted for those with sensitive bottoms.  The EV, riveted on the tarmac does not suffer any rolls turn after turn but yet remains surprisingly comfortable with its bucket seats.  The interior is re-enforced with a NASCAR grade roll bar, able to handle serious collisions.  As for the handling part, for those still skittish about its performance, this little videos shows the Tango in action.

While one might feel a little claustrophobic seating behind the driver, this EV is not meant for long distances.  However, it will accommodate big sizes as an 7 foot plus tall reporter at the AltCar Expo got in and took a ride around the block.  Click here for its specification.

Tango, A Year After.  After George Clooney shed celebrity light on the Tango, the list of other high profile people interested in it grew.  This particular one for the test ride is Sergei Brin’s and Larry Page also has his.  Here is more on it in this Spokesman.com interview.

All in all, this EV is all about performance yet is tractable and manageable enough for everyday traffic.  It would be the perfect mate to an AC Propulsion eBox.  Ah yes, the price.  $108,000 before government incentives with a $10,000 deposit but once manufactured in quantities, that price should be much lower.

And as for everyone's dream to see a formal best of the best EVs duking it out, let us hope this video will start the beginning of a real-life test.

Nick's first car recollection at 6 years old was the back of a Bugatti 37A. After having driven an AC Propulsion eBox, it was clear where the future of the automobile was, the electric drive.

Don't miss...
