Tesla Motors Model S pricing

There is it is folks, the long anticipated wait is over... at least for the price of Tesla's future Model S.

The gist is much rests on the shoulders of this sexy and elegant electric car that is sure to send the rest of the automotive industry for a spin.  The beautiful all electric sedan can seat comfortable 5 and can go as far as 7.  But the beauty is in the numbers.

How Much?  The Model S will be available with three electric pack rating, 40kWh, 60 and 85, respectively going for $49,900, 59,900 and 69.900.  Those numbers are surprising since the announced prices are not as higher as we expected, at least for the basic model.  But wait, there is a catch!  Those prices are only for those who reserve the car now.  World prices will be announced in six months.

Extras?  There are extras you ca get for the tune of $5,000, such as leather and carbon fiber interior, an active air ride suspension and sport tuned traction, as well as different wheels and tires.  A metallic paint will set you back another $750 and an all glass roof, $1,500.  There is a Tech Package that will cost you $3,750, which gives you a few goodies, such turn-by-turn GPS, Xenon lights, and more.  Another package is the Sound Studio which will run $950 but doesn't describe what brand you will get.  The famous rear-facing seats will set you back another $1,500, a parcel shelf $250.  Finally a twin charger, a 20kW on-board feature can be had for $1,500, with the charger unit that sales for $1,200.

The Numbers.  The anticipated numbers are alluring and will, of course depend on your driving stile.  The base model should achieve 160 miles on a charge, a 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 110MPH.  Warrantee is the same on all models, 8 years.  The base models get 8,000 miles for the battery pack vehicle the 60kWh gets 125,000 and the 85 gets unlimited.  The 60kWh gets slightly better numbers; 230 on a charge, 5.3 sec. 0-60 and 120MPH.  The performance versions, both 85KwH pack a 300 mile range, the regular 85 version gets 5.6 sec. 0-60 and 125MPH, while the 85 Performance gets a 4.4 sec. with 130MPH.

Final Thoughts.  The car has been much anticipated and considering the original prices, is pretty close to its initial target.  While the base model offers great deal at below $50,000, the fully loaded "Performance" package will set you $95,550, including charger.  Not a bad deal for a second version electric vehicle, EV from a very young company that has, so far defied all odds.
