The Tesla Model S has joined Hertz’s California Dream Car, which already allows customer s to drive off in such high-end cars as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz.
Those dreams, however, don’t come cheap. For instance it costs $1,500 (per day), plus an additional $3 per mile over 75 miles to rent a Bentley, Lamborghini or Ferrari, while pretending to be James Bond while driving an Aston Martin Vantage runs $1000, plus the extra mileage fee. Renting a Tesla Model S seems like a bargain at only $500 per day, with just 49 cents tacked on for every mile past 75.
Yet, despite the high rates, Hertz CEO and Chairman Mark P. Fissora stated that, "Customer and industry support for Hertz's Dream Cars has been overwhelming since the program was launched this past June.”
Still, it is good to know that car renters can still find plenty of more affordable vehicles in the Hertz fleet as well.
In the meantime, those who can afford to hire a Tesla Model S may be interested to know that the only parts that need regular replacements on the Tesla Model S are its tires and windshield wipers, according to its manufacturer, which added that even its brake pads last longer than those on gas-powered vehicles because most of its slowing power results from “turning the motor into a generator to recharge the battery pack, slowing the car in the process.” However, it is also good to note that the cars are also equipped with friction brakes for emergency stops.
