During 2013 it became apparent that WWE was going to continue to make films in the horror/thriller genre. With films like The Call and No One Lives both exceeding expectations the popular wrestling conglomerate is out to prove it can maintain itself in the movie industry. With failure after failure in films showcasing their superstars as action heroes, horror may just be the one thing that keeps the label in business. Already anticipating their upcoming sequel to the Kane starring See No Evil 2, WWE Studios is unleashing the supernatural terror Oculus and we have the new one sheet and teaser trailer for you here. Starring Karen Gillan, Brenton Thwaites, Rory Cochrane and Katee Sackhoff Oculus looks like a creepy atmospheric chiller that holds nothing back in the blood department.

Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force¬¬ unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home. Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their childhood nightmare is beginning again...

To be honest it’s surprising to see WWE studios head this direction with the anticipation of See No Evil 2. Supernatural films don;t always play so well to the mainstream audiences so to release Oculus now could be detrimental to anything that comes out afterwards. Still you have to give it to WWE for joining with the successful Blumhouse team to work on this film. If there's one group of producers who know how to capitalize on creepiness it’s the Blumhouse crew. Oculus is directed by Mike Flanagan (Absentia) and will be released to theaters on April 11th 2014.
