Sometime during your life, you will have the opportunity to throw a baby shower. Firsthand experience can be beneficial when you find yourself asking how to get started.
The hosts decided to limit the guest list to family members only, as the lady in question was so popular, an auditorium would have been needed to throw the party. Most baby showers are just for the expectant Mother and the guests are usually women. Because it was for family only, men and children were included. Naturally a typical shower menu of tea sandwiches, salads and quiche, would not be appropriate; so a barbecue menu was chosen.
The party started at five p.m. on a Saturday afternoon and an invitation was extended through Evite.com. It read as follows; “It’s a family affair as we celebrate the forthcoming arrival of the newest member of our tribe. In addition to any goody you may bring for the baby, please include a small item to hang on our baby clothesline! (Bib, hangers, toy, etc.) Dinner will be served. Please RSVP. Of course the hosts’ names, the date, the place and the time were included. Additionally, guests were asked to supply the hosts with a baby picture.
Upon arrival guests munched on appetizers, wine and drinks and hung their small items for the baby on a clothes line that had been erected on a patio. A collage was created with everyone’s baby picture and printed at Kinko’s and displayed on an easel. The honored couple had to guess who everyone was. It was great fun.
Before dinner was served a blank journal was passed from guest to guest. Each person was asked to write their thoughts and wishes for the expectant mom and to give any suggestions on child rearing they may wish to share. Additionally, a baby bank was provided for guest to make a minimum donation for the child’s college fund while guessing how much they thought the baby would weigh. This was very similar to a football pool.
It was a beautiful evening and tables of 4 were set up on the patio. Small pots of flowers purchased at Home Depot were on each table. Dinner was served and the gifts for the baby were opened with everyone looking on. The party was a lot of fun and most of all a great deal of love was shared. Question: Can it get better than that? Answer: No way!
Peruse the pictures shown and get ideas on how to set it up and recipes to serve.
