A 2-year-old terrier mix in suburban Atlanta was thrown from the second floor balcony to the ground 14 feet below by his owner when he "made a mess" inside the apartment according to an article published today in the Gwinnett Daily Post.

A neighbor who saw the incident, which occurred at Huntington Ridge Apartments near Norcross, saw the dog hit the ground and looked up to see the suspect. The police report said the woman "said the dog was obviously hurt and Fidel’s son came down crying and asking for help”.

According to the police report, the neighbor picked up the dog and called law enforcement for help. The dog was injured but is expected to survive. His injuries are believed to include a broken bone in either his hip or back leg.

The arresting officer wrote in the report that "“I confirmed that Fidel meant threw the dog over the balcony,” the responding officer wrote, “and Fidel said and nodded ‘yes.’” The dog's owner, Fidel Coronado-Alvarez, has been taken into custody on charges of felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

As of this afternoon, Coronado-Alvarez was still in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center, on a $5,700 bond.
