'Terraria' outsells 'Minecraft' in first week on Xbox LIVE

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has ruled the Xbox LIVE Arcade roost since its release last May. There's a new indie kid on the block in Terraria though which leapt past the 4J Studios port of the Mojang sandbox title according to a report Wednesday.

The 2D side-scrolling adventure, Terraria, sold more than 127,944 copies on Xbox 360 in its first week on the console according to Gamasutra. This was enough to knock Minecraft from its perch atop the Xbox LIVE Arcade sales charts as the previous champ managed 81,205 copies sold during the same period for the week ending March 31.

While the nearly 128,000 in sales on Xbox LIVE for the first week is impressive for Terraria, it still can't match the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft which passed one million copies sold in its first five days when it was released in May 2013.

Indeed, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is still a dominant force on the service as it managed to reach six million in sales through the end of March. It sold 250,000 alone for the month of March 2013 as well.

There's been no word on how Terriria performed with its release on the Playstation Network. However, 505 Games did confirm that a PS Vita version is on the way this summer.
