Terrapin unleashes Hopzilla, brings another Side Project back from the dead

Terrapin Beer Co.

Just on the heels of the release of the full official trailer for the brand new Godzilla film, Athens, Ga.'s Terrapin Beer Co. has unleashed their own beast.

That's right, Hopzilla has returned to wreak havoc on your palate once more.

Hopzilla Double IPA, originally the 12th addition to the Side Project Series of one-off brews, returns for its third year as a member of the Monster Beer Tour, Terrapin's seasonal series of big brews.

This big double IPA has gotten a lot of attention over the last two years, but not only because this beer really is a hop lover’s dream come true. Many say it’s the 100% Maris Otter malt that really steals the show. Drinkability is high with this supremely balanced brew, though it still packs a punch for even the most discerning Hophead. At 110 IBU and 10.3% ABV, this monster will soon be destroying palates from Athens to Tokyo!

Hopzilla is hopped with Bravo, Centennial, and Chinook hops in the kettle, and then dry-hopped with Citra. The tropical fruit notes imbued by the Citra, combined with the Maris Otter malt bill, which provides a chewy toffee-tinged backbone, blends together for one heck of a brew, and this year's is drinking just a good as ever. Be sure to look out for Hopzilla at local beer shops like Toast Wine and Beverage and Beverage Outlet in Martinez, and North Augusta Wine and Beverage if you're on the South Carolina side of the river.

In other great Terrapin news, the brewery is bringing yet another favorite from the Side Project Series back from the grave -- this time it's Liquid Bliss Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter. The beer was originally released as the 18th iteration in the series, and is making its comeback as the newest year-round offering from the brewery, which will provide the first year-round "dark" beer since Hop Karma Brown IPA was retired from the line-up. You can read more about Liquid Bliss here. The beer should be hitting shelves in early June.
