Terrapin Beer Co. (Athens, Ga.) recently began a new Reserve Series of beers that take a special spin on some of the brewery's most popular beers. The first release in the series was the winter seasonal Moo-Hoo Chocolate Milk Stout, but with an added twist -- White Chocolate Moo-Hoo included the addition of real white chocolate to the mix. Released in wax-dipped 22-ounce bottles, the brew was a hotly anticipated item, and saw a great deal of success, garnering a 91 rating on BeerAdvocate.com and a 95 on RateBeer.com at the time of this writing.
Equally--if not more greatly--anticipated is the second release in the Reserve Series, Cinnamon Roll'd Wake-n-Bake. This beer takes the winter release in the brewery's Monster Beer Tour, Wake-n-Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout (itself brewed with a special blend of Athens-based Jittery Joe's Coffee), and adds cinnamon to the mix, giving the beer's name several new layers of meaning.
According to the brewery,
Like your favorite breakfast treat and a great cup of coffee, Cinnamon Rolled Wake-n-Bake hits on all cylinders. Starting with a delicious coffee aroma, a touch of Cinnamon gives way to a sugary sweet icing flavor as a buttery nuttiness fills out the last drop of this breakfast in a glass.
In an interview with Beer Street Journal, Terrapin VP of Sales and Marketing, Dustin Watts, notes that the Reserve Series will be expanding in 2014 to the tune of about four or five releases. The next beer in the series will be called Guano Loco and will be utilizing peppers, and Watts hints that other future releases will involve pumpkin and barrel aging.
Cinnamon Roll'd Wake-n-Bake will be available in 22-ounce hand wax-dipped bottles and should be available in the Augusta area within the next week or so. If you didn't get a chance to get a fix on White Chocolate Moo-Hoo, that beer is still available in limited quantities at some area shops. Check out North Augusta Wine and Beverage in North Augusta, or Toast Wine and Beverage in Martinez for the last scraps of the white chocolate morsels and to secure some Cinnamon Roll'd Wake-n-Bake before it's too late.
