Terrapin Beer Co. set to release latest Side Project, Moonray

Beer fans should be happy to hear that Terrapin Beer Co. (Athens, Georgia) has put the finishing touches on Side Project 22: Moonray and it will begin showing up at craft beer friendly establishments in early May.

As the 22nd installment in the brewery's storied Side Project lineup, Terrapin is bringing you Moonray Chocolate Orange Weizenbock. This interesting take on a traditional German style has flavors that were inspired by the "chocolate oranges found in many a Christmas stocking of yore." The name of the beer itself acts as a subtle nod to the Sunray Wheat Beer that Terrapin retired in 2011, but I believe any similarity these beers may share will be limited to the fact that they both contain wheat. For the entire scoop on Moonray, here's the full label description and beer stats provided by the brewery's press release:

Sometimes things get a little weird when there's a full moon. Floating into Side Project spot 22 is Moonray Chocolate Orange Weizenbock. Our rendition of this traditional style is clearly a hoax with the addition of cocoa nibs and orange peel for a greater depth of flavor. With its big malt presence and hint of banana from the yeast, this beer may just make you howl at the moon.

Spike's words of wisdom: Beware of sleeping dogs . . . they look like cats.

ABV: 8.3%
IBU: 20
OC: 19.5

Malts: Malted Wheat, Munich, Dark Munich, Vienna, Chocolate
Hops: Sterling
Other: Cocoa Nibs, Orange Peel

Moonray will be available in 22 oz. bottles and in 1/6 BBL kegs at the start of May. You can expect to find this one on shelves and taps wherever you normally find Side Project offerings in Alabama and throughout Terrapin's distribution network. Since this is a Side Project release, Moonray will only be available for a limited time and in limited quantities. Fair warning: If the idea of this beer tickles your fancy, make sure to grab yourself a bottle or pint whenever you happen upon it or face disappointment when this one disappears for good. Prost!
