Terps embarrassed by Seminoles, 85-61

In a game that featured very sloppy beginning by both teams, the Maryland Terrapins literally watched as the Florida State Seminoles unleashed a barrage of long balls in an 85-61 drubbling in Tallahassee.

Florida State, a team that has really struggled with its outside shooting this year, made 9 of 11 first-half three-pointers and finished the game 16 for 24 from long range.

Certainly some of that was a credit to Florida State for getting hot and continuing to let it fly, but the defense from Maryland left a lot to be desired. A lot of the three-pointers were launched without a Maryland player in the vicinity of the shooter, which is simply inexcuseable.

Dez Wells led the Terps with 15 points and Nick Faust added 14. The two guards were the only bright spots for a Maryland team didn't come out ready to play, turning in yet another perplexing and listless performance.

Shaq Cleare had more offensive fouls in the opening minutes as he did points and rebounds, and fellow big men Charles Mitchell, Jonathan Graham and Damonte Dodd weren't much better.

There are so many concerns about this current group at the moment, to the level of talent, effort on the court, lack of improvement and questions about whether or not their head coach is going to be able to get the program turned around.

While all of those things are alarming, the fact that it took until the start of the second half with the Terps trailing by 20 to see any real emotion or effort from the team is highly disturbing. At one point in the second half, Maryland found itself down 30 points to the Seminoles.

It marks the second straight road ACC contest where the Terps were run out of the gym by their opponent. Maryland must now quickly turn the page and try to bounce back at home against a Notre Dame team that has been up and down all season. Sound familiar?
