We are ruled by an elite class of people, by those who hold office and do so throughout their entire lives. These people are political bosses.
Despite term limits at many state and local levels, the same elite group of people go up the political ladder from local office, to state office, and then onto national office. Such a system shuts out the average Joe and Jane. The opposing party doesn’t run a candidate able to beat the incumbent in every election. In some cases, including most judges, no one runs against them. Barring a felon arrest, all they have to do is file to be on the ballot and then vote for themselves.
Our Founding Fathers intended for all kinds of people to be in Congress, not just an elite group of lawyers. We should have farmers, teachers, nurses, educated people, uneducated people, etc in Congress. All kinds of people, some with wild and far out political views, should be able to run and get a seat in Congress.
Voting makes no sense since the ballots are rigged with elite candidates that each party selects. An outsider finds it very difficult to even get on the ballot, and if they do the party bosses force them out or outspend them many times over. The only chance that anyone has of winning is to be the chosen one by their party and thus blessed with money.
Term limits, and not just for Congress, are needed to ensure our freedom. We need to limit not just the number of years that someone can serve in Congress, but the number of years that a candidate can serve in a lifetime.
Term limits have turned many cities around, and they will do the same for our nation, if we will only enact them.
