Back in January, 2013, Louisiana's Senator Dave Vitter (R-LA) introduced a Constitutional amendment that would limit the number of Congressional terms to three in the House of Representatives, and two in the Senate. Of all of the debate by we the people, it seems this singular suggestion the most viable to take this country back from the traitorous dysfunction of cronyism that is paralyzing our country.
Phil Blumel, president of U.S. Term Limits, the nation’s largest term limits advocacy group, called on Congress to send the Constitutional Amendment to the states for them to decide saying, “The public clearly wants term limits, and it is the ultimate conflict of interest for federal elected officials to prevent the states from making the decision on whether their own terms should be limited.”
At about the same time Joe Lieberman went on record to concur, and after 24 years in office is saying he supports term limits. Too many oppose, or it would now be law, and it doesn't take a genius to answer why.
A Gallop Poll of that time indicated that the American people would vote for congressional term limits by a 75-21 margin. and though no new polls have been released after the Government shutdown yesterday, no doubt that number has grown exponentially.
Our own Senator Vitter is reacting to this dissatisfaction with Congress, and thankfully he is not the only one. Ran Paul has been very outspoken for years on this matter, and this month a new conservative star has emerged, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), who is bringing the issue forward with new verve. His 21 hour filibuster against Obama care has indeed captivated the Liberty movement, but opposition is powerful, and without public support, a profound outcry, elitis will ignore it again.
The frustration and fear of a tyrannical government who not only ignores the will of the people, but undermines the very concept of a Constitutional Republic based on law, has to be stopped, and there is no more viable way than to impose term limits. Never did our founders advocate a lifetime position for Congress, as that entrenchment grows to promote intransitive abuse of power. It is a formidable power, where their welfare takes president over the general.
Term limits will give this nation an adrenaline shot in the arm, as there would be in influx of new talent, unbound and untainted by corporate lobbyists, banking consortium, and many other hooks, who intimidate and outright buy their support. It is a revolution of the intellect, a liberty revolution, and it demands a new Contract with America.
Term limits will offer Capital Hill a new perspective, and bring back the standard of our American Republic that once made us the beacon of the world. Liberty is not free. It has to be taken from those individuals and corporations who entrench themselves with power, and considered above the law. We must stand together to make this happen. We must put aside our petty differences for the common good, the good of the United States of America.
We had that once, and we can have it again. All we have to do is stand up and rattle our cage. Rattle our cage until all of the bars fall away, and liberty will again light our way like a golden sun on a blue sky. God bless America, and give us the strength to win America back...
