Filmmaker/director Terence Cover announced December 15 that his short film "Damnbulance" will screen at the Mitten Movie Project, Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Main Art Theatre, Royal Oak, Michigan. It will screen as part of a 1 hour and 28 minute program along with 11 other made-in-Michigan short films.
"Damnbulance" is also now available for purchase online on Kunacki.com
A modern day ethics tale, "Dambulance " is the tale of two Christian paramedics who decide that they can save more lives by allowing certain persons to die and donating their organs to those they believe to be more worthy of "God's gifts".
"Dambulance" was one of two short film screenplays Cover wrote while attending the Motion Picture Institute of Michigan where he studied the filmmaking back in 2005 "An Exercise In Narcissism" the first of these two screenplays he wrote, Cover actually shot as a final project at MPI., “Narcissism” an experimental film shot entirely in a barn on a makeshift stage constructed by Cover and his wife, went on to play at numerous film festivals as far away as Berlin, Germany and continues to find venues to play in to this day. But "Damnbulance" was not to be produced for another seven years.
Seven years have passed since he wrote "Damnbulance", but Cover has not been idle. He has worked on films of every caliber ranging from short, no-budget horror films with no script shot on VHS to several hundred thousand dollar feature films shot on 35mm film. He's also been known to get gigs as a casting P.A. on network and cable channel reality shows when they're casting in the Detroit area. He's held every position at every step in the filmmaking process at least once, whether it is Production Assistant or Director.
Cover’s resume includes small roles on large projects like NBC's "Deal or No Deal", HBO's "Hung" and Dead Wait Productions' "Doug Schulze's Dark Fields" and "Mimesis", as well as more influential roles on projects like Silver Bullet Productions' "Troma's Heavy Mental" and "Blood Orgy at Beaver Lake" and the nationally syndicated "Wolfman Mac's Chiller Drive-In", Cover has had actual directing gigs on the "Death House by Dosed" music video, and Runn AMC Productions' web series "Suburban Heroes" and "Internet Style Guide for...".
Relates Cover, “Partially because I've been busy working on other projects, both big and small, for other people and partially because I couldn't find all the elements I needed to shoot "Damnbulance" and wasn't 100% confident in myself as a director,” "Damnbulance" was put on a back burner where it was allowed to simmer until it reached the right consistency.
Last year with greater confidence he was ready. He launched a crowdfunding Indiegogo campaign to help raise money for this project March 2012 Relates Cover "We shot for 3 days in May 2012 and I completed editing roughly a year later.and brought "Dambulance" almost a year to the date afterwards." Now a finished product, Damnbulance is making the film festival circuit. Its first public screening was at the TromaDance Detroit fundraiser. Its first film fest screening was at the Reel Michigan Film Festival where it was awarded Best Drama. It also has screened at the Riverside Saginaw Film Festival.
If you cannot make it to a film festival as "Dambulance" comes to town, buy a copy with hard case, artwork and DVD for less than the price of a movie ticker. ""Damnbulance" is certain to become a cult classic." Movie Grades
