A quick Google search will reveal that Louisville apparently has some serious beef with Tequila Factory Bar & Grill. One would think a slightly upscale Mexican restaurant would be welcomed with open arms on a strip of Baxter overflowing with faux Irish Pubs with crappy nachos on their menus, but one would be seriously wrong.
In fact, since Tequila Factory apparently has no website (that its homier sister Sol Azteca two miles down Bardstown is sans-URL is bit understandable, but that an ostensibly trendy restaurant, open a year now, is without a website in 2010 is a little crazy, especially when competition like the much beloved but far less polished El Mundo has a solid one, but anyways...) one searching for info about TF will inevitably be lead to some seriously nasty customer reviews. There's some nice words for TF out there, like one admirer who, um, "like[s] when someone whose first language isn't English serves [them] ethnic foods," but that's about as nice as they get.
This lover of all restaurants of all cuisines of all shapes and sizes and of all types of liquor's experience: it was OK. It wasn't awful. It was also happy hour, it was really slow, a seat was taken at the bar not a table, an impromptu tour of the grounds - including the karaoke room and perfect-for-a-warm-Summer-night patio - was given by the friendly manager, nothing beyond a couple 2-for-1 margaritas and some chips and dip were ordered, and the commute involved a relaxing five minute walk through the Highlands on a perfect night. In other words: purposefully riskless with a minimal chance of stress.
So, maybe there's better, cheaper Mexican food in Louisville, but Tequila Factory does have a nice patio, and there is a happy hour, and it's in a good location (and the only authentic Mexican place in the general area of that location), and they do have a pretty serious Tequila list. If you're in the mood for a margarita and you stick to the basics (and go there from 9-11pm on a weekday) Tequila Factory can hit the spot. Anything beyond that though, you're on your own.
