The tenth session of "Seeking Him" small group Bible Study was held at New Canaan Worship Center in Richmond, Virginia on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The main topic of discussion was "Sexual Purity: The Joy of Moral Freedom."
Even though the topic was one that is not usually talked about in a church setting, all participants were open and willing to share. In fact, Rev. Margaret Minnicks, the facilitator said this lesson was different from the other lessons because the previous lessons weren't as private and personal for sharing as this lesson.
The first thing discussed was what sexual immorality means. It was said that sexual immorality comes under a big umbrella with many facets. For instance, pornography leads to other things such as masturbation, fornication, adultery and infidelity.
Another big part of the discussion was about how moral sins affect more than just one person. They affect the two persons involved, their families, their jobs, and even their Christianity.
A part of the discussion was about "second virginity" when Rev. Minnicks explained that before salvation some might have lost their virginity during a "one night stand." A person must ask God to forgive them for fornication before marriage even if they ended up marrying that partner.
In order to be completely forgiven, it was suggested that each person make a list of all the partners they had before marriage and repent for them one by one. Otherwise, they take every partner before marriage into their marriage. Image being in bed with multiple partners when you think you are in bed with only your spouse. In order to break the soul ties, repentance is a must. And God is waiting for you to ask so he can forgive according to 1 John 1:9.
Even though God forgives the act, but there are consequences. A good example is that pre-marital sex can be forgiven, but it might have resulted in the birth of a child.
It was a lively discussion with a major conclusion. Everyone is called to sexual purity because it affects every area of our lives. Also, one wrong decision might not only affect the rest of your life, it is bound to affect the lives of others as well.
Next week's lesson is "The Spirit-Filled Life: God's Power In You."
