Tense and heroic stranger rescue of toddler falling from a 3 story window

A couple was moving out of their Burbank apartment in California this week when they noticed a baby hanging from a window by wires of some sort. He was 3 stories up.

They called 911, and then they quickly placed the mattress to catch the baby if he fell.

It was only moments later when the baby fell into Konrad Lightner's arms and then they both fell safely onto the mattress.

A neighbor went to get the child's parents who were clueless as to the events unfolding outside. They were emotional and very grateful to Konrad and Jennifer Lightner.

The Lightner's say they are not hero's, but were very lucky to be there. Konrad Lightner stated that ,"It feels like I watched a TV show, like it didn't happen to me."

Jennifer Lightner reported that the entire episode "didn't seem real until he was hanging from a chord, because there was no way he was going to get back." She also added that they "threw down their box spring mattress, knowing, it was up to Konrad to catch him."

Ironically they had earlier been delayed in an elevator for 30 minutes earlier that day, and had that not happened they would have not been there to save the child.

It is reported that in the U.S. 5000 children are hurt or killed annually due to falls from windows.

The child was transported to a local hospital and suffered no injuries.
