Michael Shawn Gillett, 50, was arrested on Saturday night in Clarksville and charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and the possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony after a domestic argument with his girlfriend reported the Leaf Chronicle.com.
Both the man and the woman had been drinking when the woman arrived at the man's house and accused him of flirting with another woman. As the argument escalated, the man pulled out a gun and threatened her with it telling her not to leave the home. When Gillett began to choke the woman, her German shepherd attacked him at which time he fired the gun at the dog.
The police report does not indicate if the dog was shot or injured in any way.
Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services were called and administered first aid to both the man and the woman.
The gun had been fired in the home as authorities recovered several bullets and gun casings lodged in the walls.
Gillett's bond has been set at $20,000. He has a history of domestic violence. Online records reveal Gillett was arrested in 2008 and charged with attempted murder to a Clarksville police officer.
