The Two-Character Play: Siblings Felice (Ryan Mahannah) and Clare (Angela Caruso) are actors who have traveled the country by way of playhouses in the boondocks, staging nowhere runs, ultimately leading them to a “state theatre of state unknown”, where they will perform their final show. Felice and Clare have been abandoned by their crew and management, being accused of insanity. They have arrived at wit’s end.
Tennessee Williams’ little-known masterpiece brims with tense psychological banter, with interlaced warped humor, as the paper-thin lines of reality and theatricality bleed together. This play-within-a-play stands for the struggle of the human condition when faced with a span of interminable isolation. The very fear of existence through dependence on the laws of reality and nature haunt Felice and Clare as they so desperately search for their ending.
