In the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, which kicked off on Thursday night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the Tennessee Titans selected University of Michigan standout offensive tackle Taylor Lewan. The 6-foot-8-inch, 315-pound native of Cave Creek, Arizona could have entered the professional draft following the 2012 college football season, but instead returned to Ann Arbor and competed as a fifth-year senior. He finished his Wolverine career with 48 starts at left tackle out of 50 games played.

Along with Auburn's Greg Robinson and Texas A&M's Jake Matthews, Lewan was considered one of the top offensive line prospects in this year's pro draft, and was a candidate to join one of numerous NFL teams. The St. Louis Rams selected Robinson with the second pick in the first round, while the Atlanta Falcons chose Matthews with the sixth pick, and the Titans used the 11th pick on Lewan. After the final season of a stellar collegiate career, The Sporting News made Lewan a First-Team All-American, while Sports Illustrated and the Associated Press tapped him as a Second-Team All-American.

In the professional ranks, Lewan will take his place on the offensive line with the Titans as one of the main protectors of incumbent starting quarterback Jake Locker. Other former U-M players that are available in the 2014 NFL draft include wide receivers Jeremy Gallon and Drew Dileo, running back Fitzgerald Toussaint, and defensive back Courtney Avery. The school's official athletic website, MGoBlue.com, has an extensive list of current Wolverines in the NFL.

The second and third rounds of the draft will take place on Friday and rounds four through seven will happen on Saturday. Each day's action will be televised on both the NFL Network and ESPN.
