The week of living dangerously continues for Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher.
Fisher donned an Indianapolis Colts jersey at a charity event and made a joke about dressing like a winner.
To begin with, it was a joke, and it was all for charity. No one should be taking this too seriously. It's not like he wrote "hire me" on his shoes, or used a postgame interview to plug his resume.
However, I understand the hoopla.
Let me try and get this straight. Jeff Fisher is the longest tenured coach in the NFL. That means he knows how things work.
Last week, his Titans team took a nationally televised historically-significant, first-day-in-prison beatdown from the Patriots 59-0. Then he spends the week defending himself against rumors he'll be fired because, well, that's what happened when you start the season 0-6.
He's looking at a quarterback roster of Vince Young and Kerry Collins, who has suddenly realized he is, in fact, Kerry Collins. They're dead last in points allowed and turnovers, and they've just spent a week seeing the highlights of Tom Brady score on them like they were a supermodel and he was, well, Tom Brady.
His reaction to this is to put on another team's jersey? In Nashville? Who's giving him career advice, Michael Crabtree's cousin?
He wants out. You can't convince me otherwise. This is a case of public career suicide. Fisher will be out by the end of the season, and his name will be mentioned with Shanahan, Gruden, and Holmgren when jobs come open.
He couldn't have done more to tick off his team's fan base if he had cut the sleeves off of Porter Waggoner's jacket, smashed Hank William's Jr.'s guitar, and peed on the stage at the Grand Ol' Opry.

get out then fisher you traitor
I'm a Titans fan and don't feel angry at all by Fisher's display. Maybe I'm not taking it seriously enough, or maybe others are just stressed from the our season. My hope's were, and are, that we could have a NFL team that we can justify buying tickets to see. I understand we have issues, but c'mon guys, give us a reason to show up at LP Field.
Love the Titans, but how many times have they broken our hearts. I was not offended by the Fisher charity gig. I am offended by the Titan players lack of motivation, drive and discipline.
The big hurdle with your reasoning is that he was wearing a Peyton Manning jersey... Peyton Manning could run for governor in Tennessee and win. Titans fans want to beat the Colts, but they also by and large love Peyton Manning...
Jeff is a great guy and I have no problems with this charity event, lighthearted joke. I am more upset, furious and just down right mad about the titans giving up on their coach last week!
Great article. On the Fisher jersey thing, Im on both sides of the fence. It was a charity event, yes. but why did Fish wait till now in his career to start trying to crack jokes?
Poor judgment on Fishers part, especially after the debacle in New England and this horrific 0-6 start. I do not think Fish will be fired, but it is a business, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets canned.
