2014 spring football practice is here for the University of Tennessee.

Knoxville News Sentinel Tennessee football beat writer Evan Woodbery and News Sentinel Sports Page host Vince Ferrara broke down the entire roster for the Vols. They previewed every single position entering the spring. In fact, every single player on the roster entering spring was mentioned.

Here’s how the Tennessee roster breaks down by scholarship numbers via Evan Woodbery’s roster breakdown on his blog.

QB: 4 (Spring) = 4
RB: 4 (Spring) + 2 (Fall) = 6
WR: 9 (Spring) + 2 (Injured) + 1 (Fall) = 12
TE: 3 (Spring) + 2 (Injured) = 5
OL: 10 (Spring) = 10
DL: 11 (Spring) + 1 (Injured) + 6 (Fall) = 18
LB: 7 (Spring) + 4 (Fall) = 11
DB: 10 (Spring) + 1 (Injured) + 4 (Fall) = 15
K: 2 (Spring) + 1 (Fall) = 3

Total: 59 (Spring) + 6 (Injured) + 1 (Not with team) + 18 (Fall) = 84

Here’s the entire UT roster entering spring.

If you take away the 14 early enrollees that are a part of the 59 scholarship players participating in spring practice, that only leaves 45 returning players participating in spring practice.

Jimmy Hyams, afternoon co-host here on The Sports Animal, says that 46 of 95 players (including walk-ons) will be participating in their first spring football practice at Tennessee. That includes players that were summer enrolls last season or were injured and unable to practice last spring. Even with that, it shows how young this roster is still in Butch Jones’ rebuilding process.
