Tennessee Legislators; Putting the Nazi in Nashville

Ladies and Gentleman, you may or not be aware that there are a group of protesters who have been camping out at Nashville’s Legislative Plaza since October of last year.  They are members of Occupy Nashville. Their website found at occupynashville.org invites you to ponder their three main goals, remove money from politics, end corporate personhood and support the Occupy Wall Street movement.

You may have seen a snippet about them in your nightly local news trough. Mind you just a snippet and the ones I’ve caught whilst surfing the tube of course showcased members who probably won’t be helping on the recruiting side for the organization. Nevertheless, their movement is an admirable one. These are real American heroes. They are standing up for the little guy, but they are doing it all alone.

Take a trip to your local Wal-Mart and ask 10 average Joe’s what they think about the Occupy Nashville movement and I’m willing to bet 5 will say they’ve never heard of it, 3 will say they’ve heard about it but don’t have an opinion and 2 will repeat some garbage they learned listening to conservative radio jerks like Rush Limbaugh.

The real story here isn’t who these people are individually or whether they have real jobs or not or even if  they have been bathing while they have been busy standing their ground for months. No, the real story here is that our elected officials have been plotting and planning to make what these Americans are doing illegal.

Their latest attempt to stifle these protesters is to make camping on some state property a punishable offense, punishable with hefty fines and or possibly a year in the county jail.

While record numbers of Tennesseans are looking for work and record numbers of politicians keep promising that they are the only ones who can create jobs, the mighty legislators are busy trying to figure out how to shut up dissent by inventing new crimes with which to arrest us.

We are the people.

That is our Legislative Plaza.

Ironic isn’t it?

When a black man was elected president in a landslide election, there were thousands of protesters at the legislative plaza denouncing Socialism, Communism and Marxism before the man had even had a chance to do anything in office.

Where are you now Tea Party?

Where are you now that the people have gathered to argue against the corruption of money in politics while being threatened to be thrown in jail?

Where are you hypocrites now?
