Tennessee football turns the corner

The University of Tennessee Volunteers were impressive on Saturday with their decisive 45-19 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs.   The win marks their first SEC win over a truly formidable opponent.  More importantly, the team continues to display increasing confidence in themselves as the season progresses.

Saturday's win also marks a personal triumph for brutally criticized quarterback, Jonathan Crompton, who struggled in some previous games.  But Jonathan showed fans what he is made of by rising above attacks on his talent and capabilities, posting career high stats in a superbly executed game.

The season is far from over, but there are reasons for optimism.  As a leader, Coach Kiffin wisely surrounded himself with a stellar staff of seasoned coaches.  These competent leaders are building a cohesive team that is operating like a well-oiled machine, no longer plagued by miscues and turnovers.

Coach Kiffin earned the respect of many for upholding established standards of behavior when he made the difficult decision last week to dismiss Brandon Warren for conduct detrimental to the team.  Kiffin also deserves credit for taking responsibility for his team's shortcomings, while standing behind his athletes through disappointing losses earlier in the season.

The rebuilding process takes time.  Significant challenges in the SEC lie ahead, but the team's outstanding performance against Georgia is an indicator that the Tennessee Vols have turned a psychological corner that will lead to greater success on the field this season and beyond.

Congratulations on a great win!!  Go Vols!!
