She is ten years old.
Her name is...let's call her Rachel.
She is a slave.
Last month she was raped...by her owner--a 60 year-old man.
Rachel lives in a Middle Eastern nation where the rape of slave girls is anything but uncommon.
At the end of August, I received an urgent call for prayer for this poor girl.
In addition to sending prayers to heaven, I sent a request to my friend:
"How much money would it take to free her from slavery?"
- $800 to free her, her mother, and her two siblings from slavery.
- $500 to set her father up in a small business
- $500 for blankets, clothes, and five small beds
Once again, God provided through the members and friends of the Allen Memorial Baptist Church in Salisbury, Maryland. Money from their donations was sent to bring this tortured family emotional and physical freedom and to set them on the road to spiritual freedom in Christ.
I am so horrified by the evil treatment of this young girl.
I am doubly horrified by the knowledge that her nightmare is not unique.
I am so grateful to those who donate funds week in and week out in the little green box in our foyer designated for this cause.
I am so grateful to those who live out of town and make donations via our website: www.allenmemorial.org.
I am infinitely grateful to our God who motivates His people to give so that we may obey His command:
"Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless;
maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.
Rescue the weak and needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked."
Psalm 82:3-4 (NIV)
May God save the soul and cleanse the heart of the wicked man who raped a ten-year-old girl.
May God bless Rachel and her family in their new life.
May God be glorified in their hearts.
