The weather has been unusually mild and beautiful in Minnesota and much of the country lately. Why not take advantage of it with some fun family activities?
Here's a few ways to make the most of the spring-like weather while we can...
- Go hiking.
- Start a fire with ice. You can still find plenty of frozen ice around area lakes. Carve out a chunk and use it to "magically" start a fire as shown in this video.
- Shoot some hoops, play soccer or play another outdoor sport.
- Go for a bike ride.
- Take some nature photography.
- Play scientist. Head out with your kids and look for signs of how the warm weather is affecting plants and animals.
- Have a picnic. How often can you usually have a picnic outside in January? Pack a thermos of hot cocoa and some tasty treats, grab a blanket and head out.
- Gather up some branches or tree trimmings outside and make a woodworking project together like those in Tree Craft.
- Climb a tree together. If you're feeling especially adventurous, read a book together up in it.
- Take the dog (or borrow a friend's) to the park and play ball or frisbee with the kids and the pup until everybody's exhausted.
Have fun!
