Former American Vogue magazine editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley recently landed the coveted job of fashion editor for Numéro Russia Magazine after 30 years of working for Vogue. Before he lands in Russia here are ten things you need to know about Mr. Talley:
1-When Andre first moved to New York he worked with the late Artist Andy Warhol earning $50 a week answering the phones.
2-Andre is super tall; he is actually 6ft 6in.
3-Andre joined Vogue Magazine as a fashion editor in 1983.
4-He has been in the front-row at all mayor fashion weeks including New York, Paris, London and Milan for more than 25 years.
5-Andre was a judge in the popular reality television show “America’s Next Top Model” alongside Tyra Banks in 2010.
6-He has a master’s degree in French literature from Brown University.
7-Before Vogue he worked for WWD (1977) and was Fashion editor for Ebony Magazine (1982).
8-Some of his best friends in the fashion industry include: Anna Wintour, Oscar de La Renta, Karl Lagerfeld and Naomi Campbell, not too shabby.
9-He worked at The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City where he met his mentor and lifelong friend the late Diana Vreeland legendary editor-in-chief of Vogue from 1962 to 1971.
10-He is a great advocate of diversity on the runway. He is very vocal about it and urges designers to add more black models in their runway shows and advertising campaigns.
