Taking ten minutes to explore a Houston author’s take on her writing, her characters, herself.
On Writing and the Author:
What Melissa Ohnoutka does: Wife, mother of three teenagers, chasing my dreams and trying to stay sane in the process. I write Mystery/Suspense, heavy on the suspense with just a bit of romance. My tagline: Where Love and Danger Collide.
Why she likes it: Being a mom is what I've always wanted to do. It's more rewarding than I ever imagined. Creating new worlds and characters through my writing where I can control the universe helps me survive the chaos.
Inspiration comes from: Movies, books, life in general.
If not writing, then what? When not writing, I love spending time with the family, going snow skiing, camping and photography.
What's next? Good question. I've got several books in the works, just trying to figure out which one to finish first.
On the latest release Betrayals of the Heart:
Name of the main character? Makayla
What Makayla does that I wish I could do. Makayla is a strong woman. One who has had to make sacrafices and ultimately risk her life to save her young son from her abusive husband. I only hope I'd have the courage to do the same.
Something Makayla would never do. Make the same mistake twice. She would have been more careful, got to know her future husband better before marrying him.
What Makayla would say about me. That I didn't want to play nice. LOL That I kept trying to control her actions. And then she'd laugh and say, but she was stronger and won. :)
What Maykala would say I do that embarrasses her. Makayla is much too serious, so I guess she would say my constant need to make my kids laugh. No matter what it takes.
Bio:
Born and raised in Texas, Melissa Ohnoutka tends to dream big and believe good conquers all. Melissa started writing as a way to escape and create new worlds where she was in control. Suspense and thrillers are her favorites, but she enjoys writing young adult and children’s books for a change of pace. An element of suspense and mystery drive these stories as well. In 2011, Melissa’s first novel, Faithful Deceptions, was published, followed by the second novel in the human trafficking trilogy, Target of Betrayal. Since then, she has published two short stories as well as the final novel in this trilogy, Betrayals of the Heart.
